Jesse and Noah invited Riders in the Sky to join them on their new single, “Old Cowboys,” and turned the song, penned by Noah, into a classic modern cowboy song. The single will release on April 24.

 “I wrote it while staying in an old farmhouse that belonged to my girlfriend’s family,” Noah says about writing  ‘Old Cowboys.’ “I had been watching lots of Westerns and  I came up with the “turn of phrase” at the beginning of the song. That was what led me to the rest of the song.”

The song begged for the inclusion of the traditional western harmonies, and Jesse and Noah knew just who to ask.

“Western harmony vocals felt like the obvious ingredient, and Riders in the Sky are among the last true custodians of that tradition,” Jesse explains about the western group being included on “Old Cowboys.“ “We’d already mentioned it in the studio, then ended up booked the same night as Riders in the Sky on a taping of the Jimmy Bowen Show. I asked Ranger Doug about being on the song and then sent it to him a few days later. They all liked it and did us the honor.”

Riders in the Sky also are featured in the video for “Old Cowboys,” which will also be released on April 24. “Old Cowboys” is on Jesse and Noah’s upcoming album, TheSunshineShop, scheduled for release May 29.

 Jesse and Noah wrote eight of the songs that are on the album.  Also featured are two cover tunes, the classic Bob Seger song, “Shame on the Moon,” which was written by Nashville tunesmith Rodney Crowell, and “Me & Magdalena,” written by Ben Gibbard of Death Cab for Cutie. It was recorded by the Monkees on their final studio album in 2016. The album was recorded at Wildfeathers Studio in Hendersonville, Tennessee.
